12 Favorite Foods of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)


The study of life of the Messenger of Allah shows that although he lived most of his time in austerity, yet he always remained thankful to God for all. He used to eat everything he was presented with and never complained about it. Everybody must have a knowledge what foods are most liked by our Prophet (Peace be upon him) and what are the health benefits of these Sunnah Foods? Some of them are also mentioned in Holy Qur’an. Some of the most favorite foods of the Holy Prophet are as follows:

Dates (Khajoor)

Dates are considered to be very healthy to use as they include vitamins and useful minerals like potassium, manganese, copper, iron and calcium for which are highly essential for human body.

Regarding great benefits of dates, Holy Prophet said:
“He who eats seven ‘Ajwa dates every morning will not be affected by poison or magic on the day he eats them.” (Bukhari)

Figs (Injeer)

Figs are linked with curing ailments of stomach, strengthening of bones, and curing of piles and gout diseases. It is among the liked foods of the Prophet . It is also one of the fruits from Paradise, and there is a separate Chapter in the Holy Quran on it. 

Allah SWT says in Holy Quran: 
“By the fig and the olive” [Quran, 95: 1]
The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) said: Figs are a fruit from Paradise – a cure for piles.

Honey (Shehd)

Considered to be the best natural therapy for curing almost every disease, the Holy Prophet used to take honey and also recommended it to others.
“Honey is a remedy for every illness and the Qur’an is a remedy for all illness of the mind, therefore I recommend to you remedies, the Qur’an and honey” [Bukhari]

Olive and Olive Oil (Zaitoon)

Olive is also one of the foods from Jannah (paradise) and it has been mentioned along with figs in the Holy Quran: “By the fig and the olive” [Quran, 95: 1]

Hazrat Muhammad used to take it himself and also suggested it to others because of its great curing benefits.
Narrated by Abu Hurairah (R.A):
Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) said “Eat Olive and use it as an ointment as it produced from a blessed tree.” (Tirmidhi)

Barley (Joo)

Rasulullah , liked it very much, and used to have in the shape of bread, porridge, and dough.

Ummul Manzar states that the Prophet  along with Ali came to their house, they had dates and those were presented to them. Both of them ate from those dates. When Ali (R.A) consumed a little of those, the Prophet  said; “You recently recovered from illness, hence you are weak, hence don’t eat more. Therefore, that lady prepared a dish from barley and beet root. Then, the Prophet  told Ali “eat from it, it is better for you”. (Tirmidhi)

The modern scientific research also proved the great effects of this food on health and is considered to be among world's healthiest nourishments.

Grapes (Angoor)

The Prophet Muhammad used to eat it keenly and was also presented with grapes as a present. It is also one of the fruits of the heaven, and is mentioned in the Holy Quran: 
“And from the fruits of the palm trees and grapevines you take intoxicant and good provision. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who reason.” [Quran, 16: 67]

The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) said: Grapes purify the blood, provide vigor and strengthen the kidneys, making them clear.

Vinegar (Sirka)

The Messenger used to eat vinegar with olive oil. 
Jaabir bin Abdullaah (R.A) reported: “The Messenger of Allah asked his family for a condiment and they replied, “We do not have anything but vinegar”. So he called for it and began to eat, saying, “How good a condiment is vinegar” (Muslim)

So, it was preferred by Rasulullah to have vinegar as a flavor while having something to eat.
The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) used to mix vinegar in olive oil which is now a trend in the poshest Italian restaurants.

Milk (Doodh)

It is associated with strengthening of bones as it contains calcium, curing gastric diseases, strengthening of memory and vision and many other healthy effects on one's body.
The Messenger  of God used to love having milk of goat and camel which was common at that time. 
The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) said: Milk wipes away heat from your heart, just as you wipe sweat off your eyebrows. It renews brain energy and makes you less forgetful.

Cucumber (Kheera)

Cucumber is vastly linked with quenching thirst, curing the inflammation of stomach, easing down pains of bladder etc. 
The Holy Prophet used to take it as a means of Salad.
“The Messenger of Allah used to eat Qiththa (cucumber) with Rutab (fresh dates)." (Tirmidhi)

Meat (Goshat)

It is rich in protein, iron, zinc, selenium. Good for bones, teeth, strengthening the immune system, body tissues and many more.
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said;”Meat is the king of foods (sayed ut Tawam).”

Pumpkin (Kadoo)

It is medically proven as a source of lowering the risk of prostate cancer, protecting against swelling of joints, lessening of wrinkles on face, stimulating the functioning of kidneys etc. It was also the top most desired food of Rasulullah .

Melon (Kharbooza)

The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) said: No woman who eats melon during pregnancy will fail to give birth to a child that has good character.

These are 12 of the many favorite foods of the Holy Prophet , which he used to eat and also recommended them to his followers because of their greater implication regarding health of human body. It is Sunnah to use these foods.

20+ Great Inventions and Innovations by Muslim Scientists


Muslim scientists made innumerable discoveries, inventions and researches about architect, engineering, medicine, surgery, physics, chemistry, philosophy, astrology, geometry, mathematics and various other fields. They are founders of many branches of science and have written numerous books of science. They eliminated misconceptions from found in the ancient science theories. Many terms of today’s science are actually given by these Muslim scientists and researchers. Major fields of Muslim scholars, scientists and researchers were medical, chemistry, astronomy and architecture.

From vaccination to surgery and from parachute to windmill, the Muslims have given the world many innovations that we take for granted in daily life. Here is list of 20 great inventions of Muslim scientists.

PINHOLE CAMERA

Muslim mathematician, astronomer and physicist Ibn al-Haitham invented the first pinhole camera in 10th century.


ALGEBRA, TRIGONOMETRY AND NUMBERING SYSTEM

Algebra was named after al-Khwarizmi's book, Al-Jabr wa-al-Muqabilah, much of whose contents are still in use. The work of Muslim mathematicians was imported into Europe 300 years later. Algorithms, trigonometry, cryptology and writing style of numerals also came from the Muslim world.

SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS

Many modern surgical instruments are of exactly the same design as those devised in the 10th century by a Muslim surgeon called Al-Zahrawi. In the 13th century, a Muslim medic named Ibn Nafis described the circulation of the blood, 300 years before William Harvey discovered it. Muslims doctors also invented anesthetics.


PARACHUTE

A thousand years before the Wright brothers a Muslim astronomer and engineer named Abbas ibn Firnas made several attempts to construct a flying machine. Though he was not fully successful in flying but had given the concept of airplane and parachute.

SHAMPOO AND SOAP

Soap and shampoo was invented by Arab Muslims.


MINERAL WATER AND PERFUME

Jabir ibn Hayyan was a great Muslim chemist in 8th century. He invented many basic processes and apparatuses of chemistry which are still in use. He invented the perfume and pure water through distillation, filtration, evaporation and purification process.


CRANKSHAFT

Crank-shaft was created by a Muslim engineer Al-Jazari to raise water for irrigation. He also invented or refined the use of valves and pistons, devised some of the first mechanical clocks driven by water and weights, combination lock, and was the father of robotics. 


ARCHITECTURAL INVENTIONS

Pointed arch, castle building, dome building technique and watch towers was made by Muslim architects. Architect of Henry V's castle was a Muslim.


WINDMILL

The windmill was invented in 634 for a Persian caliph and was used to grind corn and draw up water for irrigation. It was 500 years before the first windmill was seen in Europe.

VACCINATION

Children in Turkey were vaccinated at least 50 years before the West discovered it.

FOUNTAIN PEN

The fountain pen was invented for the Sultan of Egypt in 953 after he demanded a pen which would not stain his hands or clothes.


COFFEE

Coffee was originated from Kaffa, Ethiopia. By the late 15th century it had arrived in Mecca and Turkey from where it made its way to Venice in 1645. It was brought to England in 1650 by a Turk who opened the first coffee house in London. The Arabic qahwa became the Turkish kahve then the Italian caffé and then English coffee.

THREE-COURSE MEAL

Ali ibn Nafi Ziryab came from Iraq to Cordoba in the 9th century and brought with him the concept of the three-course meal - soup, followed by fish or meat, then fruit and nuts. 

GLASSWARE

Ali ibn Nafi Ziryab also introduced crystal glasses which had been invented after experiments with rock crystal by Abbas ibn Firnas.

DEGREE AWARDING UNIVERSITIES

The first formal university was Al-Karaouine, founded in 859 by Fatima al-Fihri in Fes, Morocco. Upon the successful completion of course, this university granted them a certificate known as an “Ijaza”. Al-Azhar University was founded in Cairo (Egypt) in 970, and in the 1000s, dozens of universities were established throughout the Middle East. The concept of institutes that grant certificates of completion (degrees) spread into Europe through Muslim Spain, where European students would travel to study. The Universities of Bologna in Italy and Oxford in England were founded in the 11th and 12th centuries and continued the Muslim tradition of granting degrees to students.

CARPETS

Origin of carpets is Iran and nearby Muslim countries.

CHEQUE

The modern cheque comes from the Arabic saqq. In the 9th century, a Muslim businessman could cash a cheque in China drawn on his bank in Baghdad.


SHAPE OF EARTH

500 years before Galileo, Muslim scholars revealed the truth that earth is spherical. They also calculated the circumference of the earth.


ROCKET AND TORPEDO

By the 15th century Muslims had invented both a rocket and a torpedo, and were being used by their militaries.


CHESS

Muslims developed the idea of the garden as a place of beauty and meditation. The first royal pleasure gardens in Europe were opened in 11th-century Muslim Spain.
