• SHO, DPO, CPO, RPO and PPO are posts not ranks. So you may see a lower rank acting as a higher post for some time.
• Station House Officer (SHO) could be either a Sub Inspector or Inspector.
• Deputy Superintendent of Police (D.S.P) and Assistant Superintendent of Police (A.S.P) are of same level, the difference is that DSP is promoted from junior rank and is an experienced Police officer while ASP is a young Police officer who joined the service directly as an officer after passing civil service exam.

All provinces of Pakistan have their own police service such as the Punjab Police, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, Sindh Police, Balochistan Police. Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Police, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police and Gilgit Baltistan (GB) Police works in their territories. 

Each police force has a Commissioner of Police appointed as Inspector-General who are the most senior officers from the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) - a constituent of the Central Superior Services of Pakistan.

There are several other types of law enforcement agencies e.g. Airports Security Force, Anti-Narcotics Force, Federal Investigation Agency, Frontier Constabulary, National Highways and Motorway Police, Pakistan Coast Guard, Pakistan Railways Police, Pakistan Customs, Balochistan Constabulary, Balochistan Levies, Frontier Police, Punjab Prisons, Police Qaumi Razakars, Frontier Corps etc.

You must save above numbers in your mobile phone to use in emergency cases. You can dial 15 for Police emergency anywhere in Pakistan. 1122 is a rescue service in Punjab and Sindh. You can call NHMP Police by dialling 130 while travelling on motorways or on national highways. 1124 is helpline number for Punjab Patroling Police which can also be called while travelling on Punjab highways. in many western countries 911 is a emergency and rescue helpline but in Pakistan 15 is used.

KPK Police allows people to register Online FIR to get help from the. Now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa citizens can lodge their complaints to police online against any distressful situation and Police will be responsible to help you out. People living anywhere in any district of KPK can use this service without any hassle.

In order to file an FIR, people are required to visit KPK Police website. Where they have to provide some basic details about themselves (i.e. Name, CNIC, Phone Number, District and Police Station) and about the incident (i.e. date, time and place of incident etc).

How to Register Online Complaint against KPK Police?

In case any person have any complaint against KPK Police, a separate webpage has been developed to register such complaints. Where the complainant can register against any personnel of KPK Police from Constable to IG of Police. If any Police Station refuse to register an FIR or you find anyone involved in the corruption, you can use this online service to register your complaint about him and hopefully you will get justice.

Punjab Police Helpline 8787 for Online Complaint Registration

Punjab Police has introduced Online Complaint Service through SMS, Call or Email. Any citizen could contact police helpline 8787 to get a compliant registered in connection with denial and fake registration of an FIR, wrong investigation, illegal demand from an official, illegal arrest of a citizen and illegal confinement. DSP concerned would contact the complainant, resolve the issue and immediately report to the Punjab Police Complaint Centre. 

You may contact the higher officials of Punjab Police in following cases;

• If Punjab police is not registering your genuine FIR.
• If Inquiry Officer is not carrying out the investigation correctly and lawfully.
• If Punjab police has arrested someone unlawfully.
• If an innocent has been arrested in a case without any reason or someone has registered false FIR against you. 
• If any Punjab police officer is demanding bribe from you.
• If Police is using delaying tactics in a genuine complaint.

How to Register Complaint to Punjab Police?

1. You may call and send SMS at IG Punjab police complaint cell helpline number i.e 8787. Procedure about sending SMS has been given in the image given below. 
2. Send your detailed complaint to the following email ID; aigcomplaints.cpo@punjabpolice.gov.pk 
3. You may also file your complaint at official website of the force i.e www.punjabpolice.gov.pk.

Remember that 8787 is not an emergency number. This number is just for routine complaints. For any emergency complaint you should contact on just 15 for immediate response. We request you not to misuse this useful facility just for enjoyment or teasing other. 

Remember that you will have to provide your name, and CNIC number at the time of registering your complaint, otherwise no action will be taken on your complaint.

You may call on 8787 from 9 AM to 5 PM. Punjab police assures you that action will be taken on all genuine complaints as per law.

How to get Driving License in Pakistan - Step by Step Guide

Here is step-by-step guide, how I got my driving license including all the relevant information at one place.

Driving License Categories in Pakistan

1. Motor Cycle: Motor Cycle driving license is valid for motorcycle only.
2. Motor Car: Motor car driving license is valid for car, jeep and Delivery van.
3. LTV: Light transport vehicle driving license is valid for car, jeep, Mini bus and lightweight transport.
4. HTV: heavy transport vehicle driving license is valid for buses, trucks, trailers and any type of heavy transport.

Age Criteria

• Motor Cycle/ Motor Car                  = 18 Years

Step by Step Guide for getting Driving License

1. Learner Permit

1. Fill "Learner Permit Application Form"
2. Attach 2 passport size photographs, copy of CNIC and Medical Certificate.
3. Paste Ticket of Rs.60 for each category.
4. Deposit your complete application file to your nearest Traffic Police Office/ Licensing Center. 
5. They will immediately issue you Learner Permit, which will be valid for next 6 months.

2. Regular Driving License

1. After 42 days of getting Learner Permit, you can apply for Regular Driving License.
2. Fill "Regular Driving License Form-A".
3. Attach 3 passport size photographs, copy of CNIC, Medical Certificate and Original Learner Permit.
4. Paste relevant tickets on your application form.
5. Deposit your complete application file to your nearest Traffic Police Office/ Licensing Center. 
6. They will inform you about Time/Date for test.
7. Appear in test on given date. Usually Verbal Test/ Interview and practical driving test are taken for Motorcycle, Rickshaw, Tractor and Car while a written test is required for LTV and HTV Licenses.
8. Upon successful completion of these tests, you will be granted with a regular driving license.

3. International Driving License

International Driving License can only be issued to those who have already got regular license from Pakistan. For International Driving License, following documents are required:

• Attested copy of CNIC
• Attested copy of Valid Driving License
• 2 attested passport size photographs (one each from front and back)
• Attested copy of Passport (valid for at least 6 months with visa affixed of country to be visited)
• Ticket of Rs.22 for court fee
• Ticket of Rs.60

Important Information

1. Application forms can be obtained from any photo state shop near to Licensing Center.
2. You can apply only in your local driving test center, from the city of your domicile. However if you are temporarily residing in any other district (e.g. for employment etc.) you have to provide employment certificate/ resident certificate, issued from your department/ employer. 
3. Validity of driving license is 5 years. Before expiry, you have to renew your license from the same issuing authority/ office.
4. Learn and remember all traffic signals before going for test.
5. Usually they ask you to drive in "L shape" forward and backward for Motor Car and LTV. However they may ask you for driving in "? Shape" forward/ backward and parallel parking for HTV.
